The Build-A-Bear Workshop® is an American toy company which pioneered
the customizable stuffed toy Teddy Bear and other animals, with stores
throughout
the country, now the largest retailer where customer interactively assemble
their own choices of plush animal friend. Inspired while shopping with
by her 10 year old firend Katie who was frustrated during the Beanie Baby
frenzy at not being able to find exactly the one she wanted, entrepreneur
Maxine Clark, opened the first Build-A-Bear Workshop store in St Louis
Missouri in 1997, with a mission to bring the Teddy Bear to life through
a make your own stuffed animal retail-entertainment experience. The company’s
huggable mascot Bearemy®, was born a year later.
Build-a-Bear In-Store
Process
The Build-A-Bear Workshop process allows it customer “guests” to
make a furry buddy that is special and unique, through a series of stages.
At “Choose Me”, all the furry characters in the store are introduced
for one to be selected for the journey. At “Hear Me” kids may
select from several sound choices to place inside their stuffed animal
to further personalize their new friend. At “Stuff Me”, they
fill their new friend with stuffing for just the right amount of huggability,
with the help of store associate, a master Bear Builder®. At Stitch
Me, the last seam is closed, nearly finished, until “Fluff Me” where
the child brushes the animal to make sure his or her new friend is fluffily
groomed. “Dress Me” allows the selection of a variety of the
bear fashions. At the “Name Me” computer the guests answer
several questions about their new friend, giving it a birth date and special
name. At the “Take Me Home” station, a customized birth certificate
is presented with the opportunity to sign up for the Stuff Fur Stuff® club
membership rewards program. Each new stuffed customized animal furry is
then put in their very own Cub Condo™ carrying case, which is designed
as a travel carrier and new home.
There are more than 30 kinds of stuffed animals varieties at
Build-A-Bear Workshop including teddy bears, bunnies, dogs, kitties at
a very affordable price, ranging from $10-$25. Some of the more popular
products are the Endless Hugs Teddy, the ICarly Bear, and the Brown Sugar
Puppy. The Build-a-Bear
Workshop animals can be purchased over the internet in case you can’t
get to a store.
There is also an online activity community BuildABearVille for
games, trading, and of course, purchasing more clothes, furniture or
accessories.
